20mm Bench Dog Recessed Clamping Knob – Hollow Base Accepts Protruding Dogs (M8)
Clamp a 20mm bench dog from the underside of your workbench even when the dog sticks through the hole.
Standard knobs only work if the dog stops flush with the bottom of your bench. Use a dog to secure thinner material for a template or jig and the base of the dog hits the knob before the face can seat. This recessed M8 knob solves that. A hollow pocket in the base lets the 20mm dog slide up into the knob so the clamping face still lands flat against the underside of the bench.
Why it exists
Bench dogs are used to locate and hold templates, fences, and tools on 20mm-hole worktops (Festool-style MFT, custom 20×96 grids, and similar). Knobs lock those dogs from below. That only works when the dog does not protrude. This knob keeps the same M8 thread and the same underside clamp — and still works when the dog is proud of the hole.
Key features
- Hollow recessed base — the 20mm dog travels into the knob instead of stopping against it
- Full face contact on the underside of the workbench for a solid lock
- M8 × 1.25 thread to fit the majority of threaded 20mm dogs (TSO, Precision Dogs, Tool Theory, and similar)
- Use longer dogs, or through-dogs without swapping hardware
- Ideal for securing templates, jigs, and fixtures that made with thinner material
How to use
- Insert the 20mm dog from the top (or drop it through for a through-dog setup).
- Thread this knob onto the M8 hole from below.
- If the dog protrudes, it slides into the hollow pocket.
- Tighten until the knob face is tight to the underside of the bench.
Compatibility Made for 20mm bench dog holes and M8 × 1.25 threaded dogs. Works on Festool MFT/3-style tops, custom perforated workbenches, and other 20mm grid tables. Confirm your dogs have an M8 × 1.25 tapped hole on the bottom.
